Neutral Grip Attachment for Pull-ups / Lat Pulldowns
The Swissies V2 give the ability to equip any bar with a neutral grip. With traditional barbells and pull-up bars, you only have the option of using a pronated or supinated grip. In my time as a strength coach and physical therapist, the neutral grip position tends to be the most comfortable for most people when it comes to pull-ups and pulldowns. One of the best features of the Swissies V2 is the versatility of the grip type, and grip width.
Imagine you could replace all of those with a single attachment. Well, you can. Since the handles of the Swissies V2 are free floating, you can make the width of your pull-ups or pulldowns whatever you want. Close grip, wide grip, it doesn’t matter, it’s all in your control.
What’s Special About Neutral Grip?
I highly recommend that you check out our Best Grip for Lat Pulldowns & Pull-ups blog (coming soon), which covers this topic in depth, but I’ll give some brief highlights:
- Neutral grip helps many people with mind-muscle connection for the lats on rowing motions.
- Less reports of feeling like the forearms or elbows are taking over the lift.
- If you lack wrist or shoulder range of motion, doing fully supinated or pronated pulling can be painful.
- Neutral grip is the middle-ground range of motion that everyone has access to.
- Choosing a wide or narrow grip can be done easily with a neutral grip.
- Narrow or wide grip may not mix well with full pronation or supination.
Carabiner Attachment
A great feature of the Swissies V2 is the addition of a carabiner attachment point. This enables you to utilize your Swissies with any cable machine. The V2s have a 32mm size knurled handle, which is pretty comfortable in the hand and beats most attachments laying around the gym.
Swissies V2 Angle Modifiers
Another cool feature of the Swissies V2 is that you are not limited to only neutral grip. The V2s are compatible with Kensui’s Swissies V2 Angle Modifiers. These plastic attachments connect to the Swissies and can change the grip into semi-pronated, or semi-supinated.
This allows you to bias your grip slightly more towards a pull-up, or chin-up. They come with 15 degree and 30 degree modifiers. This is a great way to change your position of pulling to hit different muscles, avoid overuse, or to help any range of motion issues you may have.
For anyone who has a home gym, this is a pretty awesome feature. Essentially, the V2s with the angle modifiers can replace any multi-grip pull-up bar while keeping an extremely small footprint for storage and can easily fit in a gym bag.
Swissies V1 vs Swissies V2
One of the biggest differences between the original V1s and the V2s is the fit size. The V1s can only accommodate 34mm bars, whereas the V2s can fit up to 50mm bars. Both have been tested at 800lbs, however, the original V1s do not have a carabiner attachment and they are not compatible with the angle modifiers.
Final Thoughts
For the price and versatility, it’s a no brainer. I highly recommend picking up a pair of the Swissies V2 with Angle Grip Modifiers. These have been one of the most used pieces of gym equipment that I own, and I love that I can load them up heavy in different positions.
